I thought all the Lyme’s had left my body, but I was wrong. Immediately, I heard Hippocrates whispering in my ear, “let food by thy medicine and medicine be thy food” and I knew it was time to start juicing green juice. Green juice is a real superfood cocktail that provides your body with a massive dose of micronutrients that helps restore health and balance.
I’ve been drinking 2-3 green juices a day for the last few weeks, and I feel better than ever. I have more raw energy and greater mental clarity!
My green juice consists of:
- 6-7 kale leaves
- 4 celery stalks
- 1 cucumber
- 2 green apples
- ginger (add more if you like the zing)
- a beautiful piece of turmeric (tasteless)
- freshly squeezed lemon juice from half a lemon
Ginger and turmeric are phenomenal health promoting roots! They both are highly anti-inflammatory and have been used medicinally for centuries. Traditionally, ginger is used for colds, headaches, heartburn or acid reflux and nauseau or upset stomach while turmeric is a natural antiseptic, antibacterial agent and liver detoxifier. Lemons are an excellent source of vitamin C and flavonoids that help prevent infections like flus and colds, is also a great liver detoxifier and has excellent alkalizing properties.
Sometimes my green juice may be minus an ingredient or two if I run out of it or I may substitute green or rainbow swiss chard for kale if it’s cheaper or fresher. Health for me is about simplicity and ease – not perfection. My aim is to feel better not drive myself nuts! I treat myself to a green juice in town a few days a week.
The naked truth is that I didn’t start feeling the actual benefits of juicing until four or five days in, which is very common as your body is repairing and healing from the inside out. I had my share of detox symptoms including headaches, fatigue, mental fogginess and irritability. Keeping your body hydrated with filtered water and getting 8-9 hours of deep sleep each night really helps. Remember you didn’t start feeling crappy overnight, it took years.
When it’s time to make lemonade out of lemons!I’m happy to share with you that my Lyme’s rash is gone, and I just received a clean bill of health from my doc. Yahoo!
Wishing you all radiant health,
Robyn
PS. I did not do a juice feast. I drank 2-3 fresh green juices a day plus organic salads, fruit, sauerkraut and other raw vegan treats like homemade flax crackers and kale chips. Sauerkraut provides a broad strain of probiotics to strengthen your immune system by developing an abundance of healthy flora in your gut.
